3 steps you can take to not be a scam victim

Don’t be a scam victim this Christmas season!

As we are stepping to the last days of the year and people are bringing their guard down a little to enjoy the festive season, the scammers around the world are seeing this as an opportunity to try and rob the Australians whichever way they can.

Being smart with your mobile phone?

Scammers will invent many different creative ways to manipulate you. But, the only way that they can receive any financial gains from you is only if you do the transfer yourself! It is as simple as that.

Tip No 1 – Call them!

Even if you are certain that the email you received or the text message is from your friend or your family member, always double check with a phone call to them.

Tip No 2 – Stop Clicking!

None of your friends or family will email you a link to check out something amazing in this day and age. They will text or WhatsApp you. Even then, read what it says in the link before clicking it. If it is a YouTube video, the link will start youtube.com/ or if it is a Facebook link, it will start with facebook.com/ and so on with tiktok or even news articles.

Tip No 3 – Two Factor Authentication!

What does it mean? Simple, if you set up two factor authentication with your bank login, everytime someone tries to login to your account, you will receive a text with a confirmation number to enter before anyone can login. Please set up 2 factor authentication for your banks, emails(Gmail, Hotmail, Outlook) Facebook, Centrelink etc.

Let’s outsmart the scammers by educating ourselves.
